What's a PSA?

Hey guys! We've been discussing PSAs (public service announcements) and how they are used to promote a cause. I am embedding some Special Olympics Erase the R Word PSAs for you to view. If you are interested in creating some of these for your school, please let me know in a comment. We will spend time in the future creating a script, filming, and editing. 10/14 Assignment: Disability Report Selection

It will take you to a website listing multiple kinds of disabilities. I want you to choose 3 that interest you and let me know through the comment section below. If there is a disability you are interested in and it is not listed, no problem. You can make a selection that is not on the list.

You will be doing a disability report on one of them in the near future. I will assign the type of disability you will be reporting on in the order I receive your request. You may not receive your top choice, give me 3 total.

Sept. 8 Reflection: People first language

We began a discussion on how we talk about people with disabilities and how we explain what condition they have. I want you to go to this website link, Texas Council for Developmental Disabilities, and read the article. It is a bit long, but you can get through it.

Once finished, leave a comment demonstrating 3 correct ways to refer to someone with a disability. (Hint, examples are provided at the end of article, or you can be a go-getter and come up with your own.) This is due Friday, Sept.18.

Special Olympics Volunteers Needed!

Hey guys! A lot of you have now learned a little about Special Olympics and we have talked about volunteer opportunities. The Round Rock team will be starting their bowling season on Sept. 16 for elementary and middle school aged athletes. If you would like to learn more or find out who to contact please go to this link, RRISD Special Olympics.

It does say in there you have to be 14 but we want any partners who are interested to please come volunteer. Please let me know if you have any questions.
